  • Featured Question, I Scoff at Thee!

So how about these xanga folks trying to make things easier on everyone by having a featured question?  What a great way to get a post started when you've got nothing in the bag.  Well, I don't roll that way.  When I've got nothin', you get nothin'.  Simple as that.  Today, though, I have slightly more than nothin'...

So, last night, I had a serious case of the technicolor yawns.  Seriously, the upchuck came the way a yawn does:  open mouth wide, and let the fun begin!  I don't know if it was a bug or what, but I was sweating bullets, laying on the couch, getting up every couple of hours to talk to Earl on the big white phone.  It was the height of sickness, if I do say so.

Anyway, more on point:  the AnimeFEST is coming to Dallas at the end of the month.  What does Anime have to do with Big Daddy, you ask?  Well, there's a bit of Battletech going on, and I shall be there, going to school.  I need all the school I can get, when it comes to Battletech, that's for sure.

So, if you're in the greater D/FW area 8/31 through 9/3 and you want to play some Battletech (and don't mind fighting through a bunch of drawings of kids with HUGE mouths and blue hair...gotta' have blue hair), then come on down.  Meet me.  Get a free mini.  Get blue hair.

  • A Little Community Activism

One of the great things about Battletech is the community.  Anyone who is involved in BT knows that, as a group, we take care of others.  Sure, like any other group there are bad apples (and I'm looking in the direction of a guy by the name of draki.  People know who he is, and why he's to be avoided at all costs).

Anyway, I'm a member of Lords of the Battlefield, and one of our own is in a bit of a bind.  Without going into too much detail, he is trying to move both himself and his son to Florida from Michigan so he can get a job that pays more than $2.50 an hour (that's not a typo.  Slave labor, basically).  He's selling his minis to make enough money to fund this move.  His idea was to sell them in groups so they won't get broken up.  Someone else came up with the idea for him to raffle them off with tickets going for $5 a pop.  Several of us on LotB have pledged to buy up some raffle tix, and, if we are so lucky as to win, selling them back as soon as he is in a position, financially, to get them back

So, if you're a Battletech player and you'd like to help a guy out (and have some pretty kick-ass minis to play with), take a look at this.  You don't have to sell them back down the road if you don't want to, but getting involved with the raffle would certainly help out a guy who is trying to do the right thing and take care of his family (he has custody of his son and he's making the move as well) at the expense of his passion, and once you see his mechs I think you'll agree that he is certainly passionate about them.

Well, that's my community service for today.

    Class dismissed.....

  • You can still rock in America

At least I think you can.

This is the first Xanga post for me. I hate first blog posts.  You've got no history, the reader has no idea what you're about.  Hell, if you're still reading at this point, I'm amazed.

First, this blog will be about..whatever the hell comes to mind.  I don't really have any clue.  What am I about?  About 6'2", 295 pounds, mostly.  And I'm easing into my 40's.  Yes, kiddies, I'm almost 40.  It seems like just yesterday I turned 30, but know I'm on my second marriage, my second mortgage, and my 10th or 11th car.  It's amiracle I've made it this far, really.

Mostly, I guess, I'll use this spot to promote stuff I like.  Take Battletech, for instance.  Man, do I love me some Battletech.  Novels, Sourcebooks, Field Manuals, video games, the works.  It's really the only thing I've ever been serious about collecting in my 39 years on this planet.  Oh, I used to have baseball cards as a strapping young man, but nothing grabs you like giant robotic tanks full of death.  And on August 31, we get.. the new box set.  Oh, sure, the lucky bastards who went to GenCon got theirs already, but those of us with mortgages and child support payments will wait until the end of the month, but from what I've read, it's getting the amount of love it deserves.

So, until then I bide my time, and wait.

    Sucks to wait....
